Orientation Days

Welcome to the KU Leuven Orientation Days
The Orientation Days offer new students a practical and friendly introduction to life at KU Leuven and in the city of Leuven. You will learn how studying works here, get essential information for settling in, and meet fellow new students from all over the world.

Who Can Join?

  • All new bachelor’s and master’s students (full-degree, exchange, etc.)
  • (Pre-)doctoral students are also welcome, they follow a separate onboarding track and can join social activities via the PhD community.

When does it take place?

  • February intake: Orientation Days run from 3–8 February 2026. Students should arrive by February. Classes start on 9 February.
  • September intake: Orientation Days run from 14–20 September 2026. Registration opens mid-June. Classes start on 21 September.

What to expect?

During the Orientation Days, you can join a combination of information sessions, cultural activities, social events, and practical workshops.

Information Sessions

  • Living in Leuven
    A mandatory session covering essential administrative steps, practical tips, and everything you need to know about daily life in Leuven.
  • Studying at KU Leuven
    Learn how the academic system works, what to expect in lectures and exams, and how to navigate the university structure.
  • Intercultural Awareness Workshop
    Explore cultural differences and similarities — extremely valuable for international students.
  • Dutch Crash Course
    A short, practical introduction to basic Dutch for everyday situations.

Welcome & Community Events

  • Official Welcome Ceremony
    With the Vice Rector for International Policy, the City of Leuven, student organisations and university services.
  • Student Fair & Info Fair
    Meet student clubs, international groups, KU Leuven services (sport, culture, languages, welfare), and more.
  • Guided City Tours & Cultural Visits
    Discover Leuven through walking tours, visits to historic sites, museums, and iconic landmarks.
  • International Welcome Dinner & Social Activities
    A relaxed way to meet fellow students in an informal and multicultural setting.

Welcome to Your Faculty Orientation

At the Faculty of Medicine, we organise a dedicated welcome programme to help you start your studies on the right foot. During these sessions you will be introduced to your curriculum, teaching methods, study structure and get a clear view of what’s ahead. You will also meet your fellow students and get a feel for campus life and the specific culture of the Faculty of Medicine.
